The Story:
You are Wander a young man who travels to a distant land to find a way to resurrect the life of a girl named Mono, when he arrives Wander is contacted by a being named Dormin who informs Wander that if he kills 16 creatures known as Colossi then Mono may be brought back to life.
The Gameplay:
SOTC has a simple premise you find the Colossi, find a way to climb it and kill it, this sounds very simple but finding out how to get on the Colossi is a different task in itself. Some Colossi have unique ways of getting onto them for example one of them requires you to use geysers to flip the Colossus over then you can climb it, the world is also very large and explorable with things to collect like fruit which will increase you health bar or glowing tail lizards which increase your stamina gauge. You also have a bow which will help to take down some Colossi, but the main tool you have in your arsenal is your horse Agro who is invaluable when it comes to traversing the world and fighting some Colossi, the climbing and controls can be hard to adjust to as sometimes you’ll go in the wrong direction when climbing which can be a little frustrating but overall once you get used to the mechanics of climbing it is very well done.
The Sound:
SOTC has one of the greatest soundtracks in video game history nearly all of the tracks are very inspiring and get me pumped to defeat the Colossi and then there are some that can be very emotional and they are all fantastic with the Stand out tracks being ” Opened Way ” and ” Demise Of The Ritual ” which is my favorite final boss theme ever and worth a listen to, the voice acting is all done in Japanese so unfortunately i cant understand it but something i can be glad for is that there are no annoying high pitched characters which is a plus for me.

The Graphics:
SOTC is one of the best looking games on the PS2, the environments look stunning, The Colossi are absolutely massive in scale, and the models on Wander and Agro are fantastic and speaking of Agro its possibly one of the most lifelike representations of a horse I’ve ever seen, on a final note the animations are all very well done especially on Agro and the Colossi.
Lasting Appeal:
SOTC isn’t very long, the first playthrough for me took about 6 hours and now i can beat it in about 4 hours, unfortunately there aren’t any real reasons to come back but somehow i find myself returning now and again.
Final Thoughts:
SOTC is one of my top ten favorite games, the soundtrack is one of the best i’ve ever heard, the graphics are beautiful and the Colossi are all very well done boss fights, the only thing that holds it back is the controls are a bit clunky and there isn’t much replayability. If it didn’t have those small flaws then it would be a perfect game.

My Score – 9.9/10
The Good:
- Fantastic Soundtrack
- Gorgeous Graphics
- Colossi Fights
- Agro
The Bad:
- No Reason to Play Again
- Clunky Controls
